Why does the receive queue spike when I make the Maximum Segment Size (MSS) small in my Avalanche test?

Answer

This is expected behavior.

If you were to change the MSS from the default of 1460 to 200 for example, it would mean that the server has to send 7 to 8 times more packets to deliver the same content.

As a result of this change, the Avalanche equipment has to work that much hard to process all these packets and if the load is high enough may have to queue packets from time to time.
